This event was streamed live on Live Culture (Peter Miles).
Peter Miles is a brilliant singer of Jazz Standards (Baritone) especially of music performed by the great Tony Bennett. He is also a talented leader of jazz trios, quartets and quintets. All those who play with Peter are well known jazz musicians of the highest calibre.
A small sample of some of the songs that Peter sang:
“I’ve got the world on a string” by Harold Arlen”
Where am I going?” by Cy Colman
“One note Samba” by Antonio Carlos Jobim
“For you, for me, for ever more“ by George Gershwin
“Rain or shine“ by Harold Arlen
“Don’t get around much anymore” by Duke Ellington
“Who can I turn to?” by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley
Peter has appeared every year from 1995 to 2013 with his trios, quartets and quintets at the International Jazz Day festival in London. In recent years, he has performed regularly to a full music room at The Bull’s Head, Barnes. His other gigs have included appearances at Pizza on the Park, Pizza Express (Dean Street and Kensington), The Wimbledon Theatre, The Vortex Jazz Club, The Jazz Bistro, China Blues (Camden), The Crypt Jazz Club, The Battersea Barge and Victoria Gardens Stage (The Embankment), The Ram Jam Jazz Club in Kingston and The Jazz Cafe Posk Club (Hammersmith).
In his early 20’s, Peter, who lives in Ealing, was a close friend of Dusty and Tom Springfield and whilst they pursued their highly successful music career, Peter embarked upon a long career in theatre, television and radio. By 1990, he was concentrating fully on his passion for singing the great standards of the 50’s and also Brazilian bossas by Jobim.
On the very first Tuesday of 2014, Tuesday 7th January, it was Blues night at the Home Guard featuring The John O’Leary & Alan Glen Allstar Blues Revue.
Former members of the Yardbirds, Nine Below Zero, Savoy Brown and The John Dummer Blues Band got together for some fine blues jamming. John and Alan were joined by Papa George, Tim Penn, Nick Newell, Steve Morrison and Ali Maas. If it’s blues you like, it’s the first Tuesday of the month and approximately two to of every three events feature The John O’Leary & Alan Glen Allstar Blues Revue.
